The grass is always greener on the other side may be an old cliché, but it lurks in every one of us. So, what do we do with our longing for greener grass?
Part 1 - The Other Side (Clay Scroggins)
The grass is always greener on the other side. It may be an old cliché, but it lurks in every one of us. It’s that thing we don’t currently have that we think will give us what we want most. It’s an insatiable appetite for more. It never leads to joy. It robs us of life. So, what do we do with our longing for the greener grass? The greener grass is possible, but you can’t get there on your own. God wants to lead you to the greener grass, but you have to choose to follow.
Part 2 - Rocky Ground (Jennifer McMillian)
Greener grass is possible, but we’re all tempted to pursue it on our own terms. We dream big dreams and work hard to make them come true. But what happens when your dreams die and you lose hope? What happens when it seems like the greener grass is only for other people? When your dreams of greener grass have been replaced with rocky soil, how do you move forward? We don’t always get what we want, regardless of planning, effort, or our own merit. The greener grass is possible, but you can’t get there on your own. Shift your focus to the One who loves you and gave himself up for you.
Part 3 - Stuff Ain't Enough (Darren Youngstrom)
There’s always more. There’s always better. The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. It’s easy for us to look at what our neighbors have and assume their lives are better than ours. But what if their stuff isn’t making them as happy as we assume? “Have” is never satisfying. Feeding our appetites for stuff only increases those appetites. Believe it or not, it’s possible to be content whatever your circumstances. You just have to let your heavenly Father lead the way.
